Chapter 2 - Fighting is fun

Hrodulf looked back towards the caravan, the master had wisely headed back towards the cover of the trees. He sneered and his gaze lingered slightly as the caravan disappeared. "Are we headed into the village?" Morfindion asked his elven eyes taking in the scene impassively. "Time for Grimnir to feed" Hrodulf muttered running a finger along the blades of his great axe, sweeping the hair from his eyes and loping towards the smouldering houses and the raiders.
As the two travellers headed into the village a scuffing noise came from the left hand side of the road and from around the corner of a single story house with a smouldering thatched roof came a well proportioned woman herding a limping man and two small, very frightened children. The woman was holding a broken spear and they all piled up as they came face to face with Hrodulf and Morfindion. The woman looked back the way her family had come and back towards the two men before her while the limping man, defeat evident on his face, held tight to the two small children. Eight small figures emerged from the gathering dark and rushed towards the family thinking that they had at last run their foes to ground.
"We have to help them!" Morfindion said as he unleashed a spell and darts of force leapt from his long fingers to strike two of the Kobolds, injuring one and dropping the other where it stood a smoking hole blasted through its chest. The woman attacked with her broken spear and managed to knick one of the Kobolds on the arm "ah fuck it!" Hrodulf muttered as he too joined the fray and swung the mighty Grimnir at the waist high Kobolds as he rushed into close quarters combat. His first target died with a vicious slash laying its body open from collar bone to hip and a second one's body remained standing just long enough for its head to bounce off the wall of the house and into the darkness before collapsing in on itself.
The Kobolds scrabbled around trying to surround their new foes attacking with their teeth and claws. The woman managed to fend off the the creature attacking her by jamming her round wooden shield into its toothy maw. Four others surrounded Hrodulf while the last ran towards Morfindion.
Hrodulf could barely feel the blows from the Kobolds but could feel the anger building within him... A cold, calculated rage pushing him to greater feats of strength. Again darts of force struck the charging Kobold blasting its frame to a bloody pulp. Hrodulf swung Grimnir again and once again two Kobolds fell dead, their blood staining his clothes and face. The woman stabbed her spear through the chest of the Kobold she had pinned with her shield before stepping back to protect her family.
The two remain within the reach of Hrodulf's axe turned and started to run back the way they came but Hrodulf and the woman cut them down.Turning to Morfindion Hrodulf said "This is not my idea of a quiet entry into town "
