Chapter 11 - The Hunt...
Morfindion looked out at the fields that surrounded the southern side of the village of Greenest, the rolling hills and copses of trees, a look of bewilderment on his face "How are we going to track them down to their encampment?" he asked of no one in particular. Hrodulf looked at him sceptically and then laughed, a laugh that came from deep within his belly and filled with genuine mirth "You aren't joking are you? Where have you been living all your life? in a cave or something?"he asked the haughty looking Elf.
A twitch, almost too small to see appeared on Morfindion's face as the question hit an apparently raw nerve but Hrodulf ignored it saying "Well if I am going to be doing the tracking I am definitely going to be having all of the reward... what are you here for? Muscle?" he said with a feral grin enjoying the wounded look that briefly lit the Elf's features. "There is a trail Elf, one that even a blind man might be able to follow... where all of those raiders trooped off with their spoils..." Hrodulf indicated the flattened grass that snaked towards the horizon. "See here" he said indicating the tracks leaving in a patch of mud "they are deeper than the tracks that arrived... They have some booty with them, slaves... goods... All have value to these Dragon cultists".
Morfindion looked at him "You... Understand them... Are relating to them perhaps?" he asked with a raised eyebrow. "I know about raiding... it is what Pirates do... I am no saint Morfindion… I'm not doing this for any reason other than the gold I have been promised by that fool Nighthill" Hrodulf came nose to nose with the elf again "the sooner you come to understand that the better off you will be... I do nothing unless it benefits me, I am not interested in this town or it's people... well... apart from maybe fucking Linan, that might be fun... she does have those hips" he finished with a predatory wolfish grin.
Morfindion's lip twisted in disgust "There are things that are more important than gold Pirate" he said as he stepped away in the direction that Hrodulf had indicated the army had taken.
Hrodulf chuckled "Oh yeah? Like what?" he said as he caught up with the Elf within a handful of paces "Power!" the Elf replied "Power will buy you more than gold ever could"
"I've seen power at work" Hrodulf replied "And it is like trying to catch a sand eel stirred up by a storm... Slippery at best and leaving a bitter taste in the mouth when it is gone.. Gold however... now that is a fish of a different flavour"
